Albert Ford: Reflecting on an unforgettable experience

As I sit here in the comforts of my own home and reflect back on Children's Congress 2007, only positive memories come to mind.  As Mr. John Brady, a member of the JDRF International Board of Directors, said, I really feel like I received more than I gave.  CC 2007 has been an amazing experience that has benefited me in more ways than one.  I guess I am now a "certified" blogger; I have made new relationships with people I never thought I would, and I have re-built relationships that I know will last forever.  Children's Congress was a success on a personal level for me, but it also helped us get closer and closer to our goal; a cure for type 1 diabetes.

From the delegates' performance on Capitol Hill to our Hill Blitz, we accomplished more than we could have ever hoped.  The blueprint for kids' advocacy has been laid out and in order to really carry it out, I encourage everyone who is interested to join the JDRF KAN (Kids Advocacy Network).  As I said at our final banquet, this team is not just for diabetics, it is for all friends, family, and everyone who wishes to learn more about diabetes and advocate for it.  If you have a Facebook account, the link for the Facebook group is http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2634195545.  If you have any questions about JDRF KAN, please e-mail me at abford34@yahoo.com

Again, CC 2007 has been an experience of a lifetime.  I am so grateful for the chance to be a volunteer and to help us get closer to a cure for juvenile diabetes.
