Joseph Bailey: Sharing my story is a walk in the park!

My mom and I educate the teachers every year before school starts.  She has a meeting with every teacher and administrator to discuss my daily routine and how high or low blood sugars can affect my schoolwork.  I have been a diabetic 10 years now.  My friends' moms have learned how to care for me so that I can sleep over with my friends.  They have learned to count carbs and give an injection all for me!

In our community, I think we have educated a lot of people.  Last year we held the 3rd annual "Walk in the Park to Cure Diabetes."  It was a lot of fun and more than 1,000 people were there!  My mom speaks to parents of new diabetics on the phone all the time and sometimes we go to Walmart to make a basket of "diabetic friendly" items and take it to them.

As for legislators, I have met with Nathan Deal several years ago.  I was little so my mom did all the talking. I think after Children's Congress, I will be excited and want to ask the world to help me in my fight against diabetes!
