Savannah and her mom, who both have diabetes, volunteer their time every six weeks at a local children's hospital to lend support to newly diagnosed children and their families on behalf of JDRF. Diagnosed at age four, Savannah also helps organize diabetes fundraising events, has been interviewed on the radio about living with type 1, was invited to be a JDRF spokesperson on the television program Good Things Utah, and spoke in front of 300 people at a Walk kick-off event. "I like to stay busy in lots of different things and I try not to let my diabetes slow me down," says Savannah. She enjoys soccer, gymnastics, 5K runs, competitive horseback riding, and sewing. As a delegate, Savannah wants to represent the children of Utah who have diabetes and to encourage Congress to help fund diabetes research.
