Nicholas (who goes by Nick) loves math and has quickly become a whiz at calculating carbs. Diagnosed at age six, he wants to become the first three-in-one player (of baseball, football, and basketball) to have type 1.

Nicholas (who goes by Nick) loves math and has quickly become a whiz at calculating carbs. Diagnosed at age six, he wants to become the first three-in-one player (of baseball, football, and basketball) to have type 1. He hopes to meet his congressman and learn how Congress votes on bills and programs, so that if he chooses to become a congressman one day, he'll know how to vote for more money toward diabetes research. Along with his adoptive family – including sister Johanna, who is the same age and also has diabetes – Nick is stepping up to the plate to make a difference, including taking part in JDRF Walks to raise money for research. Nick enjoys soccer, baseball, and basketball, and likes making jigsaw puzzles and solving brain teasers. Among his big dreams for the future, he wants to become a scientist or an astronaut.
