Age: 13
Age at T1D diagnosis: 2

Kurt keeps up-to-date on expected advances in treatments for T1D and is excited about artificial pancreas systems. “I liked the idea of not having to worry about my diabetes for once,” he says. “More advancements in technology would mean less stress and worrying for both my mom and me. However, I look forward to one day not having to rely on machines to keep me alive. Yes, I am talking about a cure!” Kurt is also an active speaker and mentor for the T1D community, including meetings with Members of Congress. His family is involved too; they have walked to raise funds for JDRF for 10 consecutive years and his siblings participate in a natural history study. “I like to see them get poked for a change.”
