Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 7

“From low blood sugars to high blood sugars, and illness to excitement, and so many other things, I had to just keep my head up and keep going,” says Kate of her journey living with T1D. Leading a top fundraising JDRF Walk team, Kate’s Carb Counters, Kate is a creative fundraiser and advocate for JDRF. She has run a jewelry sale and a restaurant fundraiser; and she educates her classmates and distributes information about T1D. Yet Kate’s other interests are just as diverse as the ways she spreads the word about T1D. She loves acting and singing, and has performed speaking roles in seven musicals. She also serves as vice president of the National Charity League at her school and as president of the National Junior Honor Society.
