Age: 5
Age at T1D diagnosis: 1

Julianna and her family have come through many challenges. When Julianna was diagnosed, her father, Shiloh, an Army major and Blackhawk Pilot, decided to stay in the Army, in part to maintain health insurance. During his deployments, Julianna’s mother managed the girl’s T1D on her own, while also caring for Julianna’s ailing grandfather.

As her father says, Julianna is “a little spitfire, ready to take on her brothers and the world if need be,” and a continual inspiration to her whole family. “My daughter and the other children I have met with this disease deserve a cure. They deserve for their elected representatives to fund and fight for a cure because they are America’s future. If we can’t fight for our children, then what can we fight for?”
