Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 10

By the time Jack was diagnosed with T1D one Thanksgiving Day, he already knew all about blood-glucose monitoring and carb counting. His older brother James’ struggle with T1D had made Jack profoundly familiar with the disease. “The hope in finding a cure, and our faith is what gives us courage to get through each day and drives us to bring awareness to others.”

The brothers educate others at school and church fundraisers, and participate in JDRF Walks. Jack is an adventurous outdoorsman who loves snowmobiling, kneeboarding, hunting, fishing, and riding four-wheelers. He has earned distinctions for his talents in golf, 4-H activities, and academics. Jack plans to be an engineer in the future, and remains hopeful about T1D research. “A cure could save my life and allow me to one day state that I had type 1 diabetes.”
