Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 7

Jack, an accomplished Eagle Scout, hasn’t stopped since receiving his T1D diagnosis. He has hiked Arches National Park, gone whitewater rafting on the New River Gorge, and traveled from coast to coast. “I wasn’t going to let this disease stop me from going ziplining 30 miles per hour on a 730-foot course! I did exactly what I had set out to do after my diagnosis.”

Though he began his advocacy with letter-writing and phone calls, today Jack turns his fun into funds. Through his Team Jack Challenge, he has raised money for JDRF by kayaking 50 miles, biking 32 miles, and hiking the Grand Canyon from rim to rim—all in just one year. In the future, Jack would like to become a field biologist and travel to distant locales.
