Described as a role model by his endocrinologist, Jack is an international pen pal with underprivileged children in India who also have type 1. "My letters have encouraged many of those children to become involved in their medical treatment and be comfortable with their illness," he says. Diagnosed at age 11, Jack frequently speaks at JDRF events and volunteers with his JDRF chapter. With his vision set on accomplishing great things, Jack wants to earn a law degree and become an entrepreneur. He is an Honor student and has received three scholarships and many "Student of the Month" awards. Jack is interested in politics and current events, and enjoys competitive swimming, tutoring other students, reading thrillers, traveling, and learning about the latest innovations. As a delegate, Jack wants to use the public speaking skills he has gained through his work with JDRF to encourage Congress to support diabetes research.
