International Delegates
Children's Congress welcomes delegates from six JDRF international affiliates. These delegates have long been activists for diabetes research and have participated in JDRF events in their own countries. They come to Washington as representatives for children with diabetes from their home countries and from every country around the world affected by the disease. Their experience at Children's Congress will be invaluable in implementing future advocacy programs in their home countries.

Delegate: Amy
Country: United Kingdom
Age: 14
Profile: Diagnosed when she was five, Amy can still remember life before the disease, and hopes for that day to come again. She was in Florida when she was diagnosed, since her father was posted there with the Royal Navy. Moving back to the U.K. made things difficult since they handle diabetes differently there, but now, at 14, Amy is more used to it. She does four injections a day, and three or four finger pricks as well.

Delegate: Josephine
Country: Denmark
Age: 18
Profile: Eighteen year old Josephine loves cars and horses, riding once a week or more. She works at a hospital one weekend a month, and volunteers with her mother at the Red Cross and JDRF. Diagnosed with type 1 at 11 years old, it took her some time not to be angry and to adjust. Now, she feels that she’s lucky that it’s not something she considers to be worse. But she would like to not have to prick herself several times a day, and have to have shots.
