Grant is translating his love of languages into impressive advocacy work. As a two–year National Spanish Exam gold medalist and secretary of his school’s Spanish Club, Grant drew on his linguistic expertise to help create a Spanish outreach program with the JDRF Houston Gulf Coast Chapter. His significant outreach work includes translating T1D fact cards into Spanish and distributing the information at doctors’ offices in Spanish–speaking neighborhoods. “Living with type 1 diabetes has required that I make a big lifestyle change,” he explains. “This change was difficult, but made much easier by the support of the JDRF Outreach Program. When I realized that JDRF didn’t have any resources for Spanish–speaking families, I felt compelled to make JDRF resources accessible to them.”
