As one half of ‘Two Against 1,’ a fundraising team of siblings with T1D, fifteen-year-old Erick is a busy young man. Diagnosed in 2011, Erick was a volunteer at this year’s local JDRF Gala and a participant with his dad in the Tucson JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes where JDRF’s CEO, Derek Rapp, named him ‘Best Youth Rider.’ Erick is a JDRF Speakers, leads a team every year in the local JDRF One Walk event, and serves as a JDRF Youth Ambassador. A Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, Erick is working toward an Eagle Scout award. His ‘Two Against 1’ team, which includes his younger sister, Oaklie, who was diagnosed in 2014, has raised almost $20,000 for JDRF. Erick’s hobbies include hiking, running, cycling, and enjoying the outdoors.
