Elijah is likely the only Delegate this year who has a pet pig. The 4H member brings his pet along with him to speaking engagements when discussing the origins of life-saving insulin shots. Elijah, who is also a Cub Scout who enjoys basketball, football, and swimming, is working on a 4H swine project to raise money for a Diabetes Alert Dog. The aspiring Congressional Aide already knows his way around local political offices, having made presentations about T1D to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the Board of Supervisors, California State Senators, and two local Congressmen. “I think I can make a difference for other kids with type 1, like me,” says Elijah.
