Age: 11
Age at T1D diagnosis: 8

Calvin has a very clear memory of October 28, 2009—the day he was diagnosed with T1D. He got to play video games, and at the hospital Halloween party his face was painted green to look like an ogre. But when he was ready to leave the hospital, Calvin realized that T1D was going home with him. “I could not believe that this disease was never going to get better; that I would always have type 1 diabetes, until a cure is found.” Today Calvin participates in JDRF fundraisers to help find that cure.

An award-winning athlete, Calvin plays baseball and football, and loves wrestling, skiing, and riding bulls and horses. Calvin is learning how to play the fiddle. He wants to run for president someday, but first and foremost, he’d like to become a professional baseball and football player.
