Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 7

Alexander’s T1D hit a nerve when he wasn’t allowed to take a driver’s learning permit test last year because of his insulin use. Though his request was eventually approved and he passed the test with flying colors, the experience was transformative. “I have realized how important it is to get out and tell people what T1D really is so I will not have to continue to fight for my rights and health.”

Alexander recently participated in his first JDRF Walk and has begun to fundraise for JDRF. While working on his Eagle Scout rank, playing soccer, and maintaining an honors-level GPA, he’s also looking to the future. “My life with T1D has made me interested in a career in medicine.” He is taking classes and has joined the local Medical Explorers Post to gain early experience.
