Eight-year-old Paige had to miss school when she was diagnosed early last year, but when she returned, she was ready to start teaching her classmates everything she had learned about diabetes. They read books on the disease, and Paige did her science fair project on diabetes, winning her the grand prize for her grade. "I don't think it's hard to talk about," she says, "but I do think it is hard to live with." Paige plays soccer and tennis, and has successfully competed in ice skating competitions. She has been dancing for four years and has been in two productions of The Nutcracker. She also collects dolls and stuffed animals. An animal lover, she has a golden retriever and two goldfish, and is considering being a veterinarian when she grows up.
