Danielle from Washington
Profile:

It took doctors so long to figure out what was wrong with 2-year-old Danielle that she was flown to the hospital in a special airplane. And living in a small town, she says that, seven years later, she often feels lonely, because she doesn't know other kids with diabetes. Despite these challenges, Danielle, 10, is thriving. She's a competitive swimmer and also plays the piano and drums ("I like both very much, but drumming's more exciting.") She'd like to be a scientist when she grows up and would love to study historic and prehistoric artifacts. She counts among her accomplishments being voted the best at science by her classmates, she won the national fitness award last year, and she's helped to raise money for diabetes research.
