Chloe from Washington

Age: 12

Profile:

Chloe was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age four, and although she doesn’t remember that day exactly, she does remember that she understood that she and her brother (who was diagnosed the day after she was, at age 22), were going to be living with this life-threatening disease for a very long time. Now, at 12, Chloe has not let her diagnosis impede her. She plays volleyball, and hopes to start guitar lessons soon. She would like to become an actress, and is in a play at a local community theater, and acted in a short film for the Seattle Film Festival. She was the youth ambassador for JDRF Northwest’s 2008 Walk, and has done several speeches about life with diabetes. “I hope to show Members of Congress why it’s important to keep funding research for diabetes. I want them to see me as a living example of kids who have type 1 diabetes.”
