Olivia from Virginia
Age: 14Profile:

A member of the yearbook staff at her middle school, Olivia enjoys photography and writing. She also loves to ski and snowboard, and to play the harp. She has spoken to Members of Congress about her diabetes and a need for a cure, and played harp at the 2008 JDRF Gala. She also participates in the JDRF Walk. Diagnosed when she was a baby, she has no memory of life without diabetes. She uses an insulin pump and looks forward to the day when she doesn’t have to worry about it showing through a dress, or when her disease makes her miss things she enjoys, like tennis practice. As a delegate, Olivia would like to convey what everyday life is like for a someone with type 1 diabetes. “People don’t realize that everyday is a challenge, and that insulin is not a cure.”
