Clara from Tennessee
Age: 6Profile:

At three Clara was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Almost six now, she is very active in her diabetes management, checking her own blood sugar and helping to get her insulin pump site ready for a new insertion. While the insulin pump has helped enormously, it’s not a cure. Clara has spoken about her life with type 1 to numerous companies who support her local JDRF Walk, and on a local telethon raising money for a camp for kids with type 1 diabetes. An animal lover, she hopes to begin horseback riding lessons soon and get a puppy. As a delegate, Clara hopes to personalize the disease so that it is easier to understand what children afflicted with type 1 diabetes and their families deal with every day of their lives, and to see an increase in the research budget toward a cure.
