Almost six now, she is very active in her diabetes management, checking her own blood sugar and helping to get her insulin pump site ready for a new insertion. While the insulin pump has helped enormously, it’s not a cure. Clara has spoken about her life with type 1 to numerous companies who support her local JDRF Walk, and on a local telethon raising money for a camp for kids with type 1 diabetes.

Profile: Like his sister and two of his brothers, Oliver has type 1 diabetes, diagnosed at age three. Now four, he can test his own blood sugar, and practices giving shots to his bear so when he’s old enough he can administer them to himself. He gets four to five shots every day. Oliver’s interests include playing golf, working jigsaw puzzles, and playing with toy cars.

A lacrosse player for his school, Patrick also plays basketball and enjoys going to concerts. He is in the Latin Club and National Honor Society.
