Jacob from South Carolina
Profile:

Jacob, 6, was diagnosed when he was 15 months old, devastating news to his mother, who herself has had type 1 diabetes since she was 11. Today, drawing from the family's knowledge and experience with the disease, Jacob is in good control. He enjoys baseball and wrestling, is a yellow belt in American karate, and loves roller-skating. Indoors, he's into PlayStation and Game Boy. He aspires to be a policeman some day. Last year, Jacob raised money for the American Heart Association by jumping rope at his school, and sold the most bracelets in his community supporting JDRF and the need for a cure. Speaking for herself and her son, his mom says, "A cure would benefit the young and the old and would extend lives for millions of people around the world."
