Ava from Ohio

Profile:

In September 2002, Ava went with her sister and mom to their first JDRF Walk, ready to make a difference for "someone." Little did they know that Ava herself, diagnosed just a week later, would be that person. "Four years later, we are still the American family, but we are living our lives by moments in time," her mother writes. Now 7, Ava has become a role model for living successfully with diabetes. She loves to dance, sing, fish, and play with Tucker, her puppy. She says she might want to be an ice skater one day, but she knows she wants to help children feel better about having diabetes until there is a cure. In addition to speaking to kids about the disease, she's now participated in five Walks.
