Jane volunteers at soup kitchens, other charities, and JDRF. She has been a youth ambassador and has given speeches at fundraising events, and was the featured speaker at the 2008 spring Gala. She is on the field hockey team and the debate team. She enjoys sailing, reading, cooking, and baking. She is in her school’s student government and hopes to pursue a career in journalism. As a delegate, Jane hopes to educate Members of Congress about diabetes so that they will support more research toward a cure. “Nine years ago, I had no idea what the future would bring. As a five year old, I was excited about going to kindergarten. Today, at 14, I am still excited by all the opportunities that lay ahead—finishing high school, going to college, getting married, having a baby. But always on my mind, along with these things, is knowing what can happen to the body because of diabetes.”
