Ashley from New York

Profile:

At 15, Ashley says her life has been great and as normal as it can be for someone who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes the age of 17 months. She got her first insulin pump when she was in the third grade and has "upgraded" twice since them. The pump has made life much easier, especially not having to stick to as tight an eating schedule, but a cure is what she's after. As a JDRF advocate, Ashley has participated in events at her local chapter and been appointed a Youth Ambassador. "The U.S. Congress should support us for many reasons," she says. "We need to find the cure faster, and that's something Congress should not only support, but be proud of."
