Katherine from New Jersey
Profile:

When Katherine, 6, was diagnosed just before her second birthday, her mother did little for several days except hope it was a bad dream. But her own mother made her realize she needed to be strong for Katherine, and she and her husband began volunteering with JDRF. Now Katherine can test herself (although she hopes someday to put her "pumpy" away forever) and enjoys gymnastics, soccer, making jewelry, and being involved in Girl Scouts. The family goes on JDRF Walks, holds a fundraising dinner-dance every year, and has met with their Congressional representative as part of the Promise to Remember Me campaign. Her mother writes, "If Congress could see what we see, if they could live with our struggles every day, could they have the power to help and yet still say, 'Wait'?"
