Benjamin from New Hampshire

Benny, 7, has lived with diabetes since he was 3. While he doesn't remember being diagnosed, he's proud that he now takes a leading role in own daily care. That includes doing his own first blood sugar check of the morning and carb counting with his mom's help at mealtimes. At school, Benny loves playing on the monkey bars, shooting basketball, or running around with his friends, but it's hard on him because his blood sugar frequently goes low. "My teachers, friends, and family have learned a lot about diabetes by watching how my mom and I take care of it every day," he says. "We walk to get money to help find a cure, but I think our leaders in Washington can do even better than us."
