Chandler from Mississippi
Profile:

Chandler, 17, says that as an active person--achieving honors in baseball and tennis and serving as junior class president--diabetes is often a hassle. He describes his diagnosis in December 2002 as a "tremendous shock." It took him a while to put himself back in "the normal swing of things," but today he is a high honor roll student looking forward to college and majoring in business or engineering. Over the last four years, he's done what he could to promote diabetes awareness, especially among his friends. "They've all learned my treatment routines, and most of them say they don't think they could make it." However, he says he likes to change such negative feelings "into a positive belief that anything is possible."
