Joseph from Missouri
Profile:

Just six months after Joseph, 13, was diagnosed with diabetes, his younger brother Levi was diagnosed as well. In the seven years since, Joseph (he prefers Luke) has learned to take care of himself but sometimes still feels uncomfortable giving himself a shot in public. He was disappointed when he learned his disease would prevent him from joining the armed forces or becoming an EMT. But he still keeps very active. He loves football, baseball, hunting, fishing, cooking, movies, and video games. He's made 7th grade honor roll, and hopes to be part of the medical profession some day. "I believe more attention and government money could go towards this cause," he says. "I hope some day my brother and I will not have to give ourselves shots and can eat anything we want."
