Abe and his identical twin brother, Curt, were both diagnosed at age 2, just two weeks apart. "Our world was turned upside down," their mother says. "Within a two-week period, half of our family had become diabetic." The family adjusted, deciding to become proactive in finding a cure rather than being angry. Now they raise money every year through the local JDRF Walk as the team Twinpower, and last year the Strader parents hosted a fund-raising tennis tournament, which they hope to make an annual event. Abe, now 6, happily attends school, plays soccer, and likes downhill skiing. When he heard the pop song "If I Had a Million Dollars," he told his mother that if he had that sum of money, he would buy one toy and donate the rest to find a cure.
