Michelle from Michigan
Age: 14Profile:

Michelle was diagnosed at age 11, and learned quickly that there is no rest from diabetes. But she doesn’t let it stop her, and participates in several different sports, including basketball and soccer. She also likes swimming and acting, and was one of the stepsisters in a production of “Cinderella.” She would like to be a nurse to work with children with diabetes or a teacher to work with children who have learning disabilities. In sixth grade, she won a first-place ribbon on a diabetes project at the West Michigan Science Challenge, and is a student ambassador for her school. As a delegate, she would like to help legislators see that kids with type 1 are regular kids with hopes and dreams, but that they have to fight a battle inside their bodies all day, every day. “I want to make sure they know how important it is for our futures that a cure for diabetes is found.”
