Samuel from Massachusetts
Age: 14Profile:

Diagnosed a year and a half ago, Sam, now 14, sees an upside to his diagnosis: “I used to talk about losing a baseball game like it was the end of the world, but now, I have this realization that it’s not so bad. There are so many worse things that can happen.” He raised almost $6,000 at JDRF’s Walk and is passionate about spreading awareness about the disease. He is a competitive baseball and tennis player, and enjoys skiing as well. He works on his school’s theater productions with lighting effects. Other than the convincing Members of Congress to support type 1 diabetes research, as a delegate, Samuel would like to conquer his fear of speaking before a large crowd, by speaking alone to the Congress about an issue he is passionate about. “Every day, I try to educate as many people as I can about this rapidly growing disease. Although I raised $6,000, Congress has the power to get millions of dollars invested into research to find a cure.”
