Alyssa from Massachusetts
Profile:

Beginning her junior year next fall, Alyssa is 16. After living with diabetes for six years, she says the initial feeling of being overwhelmed has given way to a sense of personal determination to assist "not only myself but all those who face the realities" of the disease. She has worked hard to build her Walk team, Alyssa's All Stars, and as Youth Ambassador for her chapter, she shares her story with local companies, becoming the "face" of diabetes she hopes they'll always remember. Alyssa brings the same sense of discipline to her other activities, especially dance. She's taken tap, jazz, and ballet lessons since she was 3 and enjoys learning new dances and performing them in shows and recitals. Her biggest aspiration: "to help find a cure and educate others."
