Nicole from Illinois
Profile:

Nicole says she can't remember when she didn't have diabetes. She was diagnosed when she was 2 years old and now, at 8, says, "It's no fun" when people stare at her when she checks her blood sugar or uses her pump, or when she can't go to slumber parties with her friends. Nicole has a Walk team and helps her mother write letters asking for pledges. She has sold lemonade and emptied her piggy bank to have money to give to diabetes research. Having varied interests, she's a Brownie scout, has a green belt in karate, and played in a piano competition last year. She's on a gymnastics team, for which she practices six hours a week. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
