Age: 11Profile:

Two years ago, two days after her birthday, Amanda was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She is still very active, and is involved in club soccer, skiing, swimming, tubing, and water skiing. An animal lover, she would like to be a veterinarian. A 2009 Walk Ambassador for the Atlanta Walk to Cure Diabetes, Amanda’s team Amanda’s Angels raised more than $20,000. She graduated to the insulin pump this year. She attended Camp Kudzu (a camp for kids with type 1 diabetes) for the first time, and was interviewed on television in Atlanta. “I hope to persuade Congress that funding research toward a cure for diabetes is very important.”
