Biagio from Florida
Profile:
Biagio's family was already familiar with diabetes when he was diagnosed at the age of 3--his father had had the disease for more than 20 years. Then last year, both of his younger sisters were diagnosed, meaning that three-fourths of his immediate family have the disease. Biagio, now 12, likes riding his bike, hanging out with friends, and playing video games. He wants to continue getting better in reading and math and hopes to become a doctor someday. Biagio is thankful that the family is strong and that everyone can rely on each other for support. "We need a cure, and we need it fast," he says. "This disease does not have a face. You cannot tell someone has diabetes, nor can you tell how much they suffer."
