Amanda from Connecticut
Profile:

Amanda, who has had diabetes since she was 2, has had to endure some scary moments. Now 11, she swims on a team called the Hopkins Mariners and competes in meets. She has taken violin for five years and played trumpet in the school band. As a Youth Ambassador for her chapter, Amanda has done much to help JDRF and diabetes research. She has met with her Congressional representative, appeared on TV, and launched a "Dimes for Diabetes" project in her classroom. She and her parents participate in the Walk under the team name Amanda's Pandas. "I heard that a cure is close if we can just commit money toward research," she says. "I want 'close' to mean within my lifetime!"
