Sabrina from California
Profile:
Seven years have passed since Sabrina was diagnosed at age 5, but in spite of illnesses and emergencies, she went on to win pageants, barrel racing competitions at local rodeos, and most recently, her second rodeo queen title. Not surprisingly, she enjoys riding her two horses, Angel and Dream. She sees using the prominence she's earned to promote awareness of diabetes. "I want children everywhere to see me as a role model as to what they can do," she says. Among her other interests, Sabrina, 12, likes playing chess and volleyball, snowboarding in the winter, swimming in the summer, and singing in the choir. She hopes that one day she will be a diagnostic doctor and she intends to do all she can in the quest to find a cure.
