Michael was diagnosed over two years ago with type 1 diabetes. A very difficult year followed, as his and his family’s lives changed forever. Now, they try to spread awareness about the disease however they can. They had a full-page article published in their local newspaper about what type 1 diabetes is and what it’s like to live with it. The family’s Walk team—Michael’s Crew—with more than 130 participants, has raised $10,000. Michael has received two Golden Sneaker awards, an Outstanding Achievement award, Best T-Shirt award, and reached gold level with the Spread the Word campaign. He hopes that by sharing his story with Members of Congress, they will fund money for research to find a cure. Now four years old, one of Michael’s all-time favorite things to do is to have sword fights. He also enjoys playing soccer and swimming. He also has a great interest in food, and makes recipes from his Disney Cookbook.
