Jack from California
Profile:

Jack is 5, and within six hours of his diabetes diagnosis last October, his mother sat in his hospital room, in shock and sleepless, borrowed a laptop, and e-mailed her U.S. representatives about the prospect of a cure. Typical for his age, Jack likes to color (he's getting better at staying inside the lines), use the trampoline, swim across the pool, and go camping with his family. "The best part about camping is going to the bathroom outside like a bear," he says. He's proud that he can do his own finger sticks, and he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up, or maybe a pilot like his Uncle Steve. His mom and dad think he's so friendly, he'll become a politician. But first he'll have to go to kindergarten.
