Profile:
Benjamin was away at summer camp when he started noticing what he later learned were the classic symptoms of type 1 diabetes. It wasn't until he got home and his mother sensed something was wrong that he went to the doctor. Four years later, Benjamin --aka Boone -- is an active 16-year-old. But he remembers the experience of discovering his disease, and feels for younger children going through the same thing. These days, Benjamin is on a fencing team, plays tenor saxophone, is involved with a theater company, and volunteers at the zoo. He hopes to be an anthropologist, zoologist, or photojournalist, and dreams of combining the three as a world traveler who documents the lives of people and animals while promoting education, civil rights, and conservation.
